Summer is...

"Summer's lease hath all too short a date." -Shakespeare

Summer is beautiful desert hikes.

Summer is watching the sun set and the moon rise over Delicate Arch.

Summer is evening silhouettes.

Summer is ice cream and shaved ice and gelato and slurpees.

Summer is Girls Camp. My 12th Girls Camp, and Sabrina's 4th.

And meeting Elaine S. Dalton, one of those angels on earth.

Summer is celebrating this country's independence with those you love.

It is parades.

It is spreads that make you die from happiness.

Summer is swimming until your skin shrivels up.

Summer is to revel in our national parks.

Summer is celebrating the birthdays of those we love most.

Summer is visiting campus with the child who will be packing up and moving there by summer's end. It means a mom sighing deeply and blinking slowly.

Summer is late nights with cousins.

Summer is evenings and days at the lake.

Summer is watching your daughter play the 1812 with the New American Philharmonic. It is watching her face light up as the fireworks and the cannons go off and she realizes she's marked another one off the bucket list.

Summer is carefree cousins.

It's fireworks.

It's weird sunburns that only we Watsons have mastered.

It's campfires and smores.

Summer is quiet carefree evenings at Station Park.

Summer is Gershwin and Tchaikovsky at Deer Valley.

It's cookies as big as your head.

It's music that stirs your soul in mountain air that enlivens your spirit.

Summer is pizza in Park City.

And fresh corn on the cob straight from the farmer's stand.

It's the first day of school for your youngest child...wait what?!!!! That's disappointing. Summer just lost some of its fun-ness.

Oh well, it was good while it lasted.
