Cherishing the Last Couple of Hours

Here I sit in the quiet of my kitchen. This may very well be the last quiet hours I enjoy for the next three months. The children are at school cleaning out lockers, signing yearbooks, preparing for graduation ceremonies. In just a couple of hours, the phone calls will start streaming in, the final pick up of the school year will commence. It will then be time to drop everyone off at their respective end-of-year parties.

And then it begins. Summer. I'm ready for it, even with the challenges it brings. The incessant snacking, the constant clutter that ever-present children bring, the battle with idleness, the impossibility of Neil and I ever having a private conversation. I will take those challenges, because with the challenges, come the perks of summer.

Sleeping in. Not having to conform to my children's busy school and extracurricular schedules. Evenings to do whatever we want! Time to enjoy my children's company and not have to be constantly nagging them about what they should be doing and what event they're late for.

I'll trade one set of challenges for another. It's time for some much needed family time!
